Local star Ravichandran Ashwin shined by taking 10 wickets after scoring a century earlier.

Ravichandran Ashwin dominated Bangladesh, taking six wickets in their second innings and helping India secure a huge 280-run win on day four of the first Test in Chennai.

Bangladesh, chasing a massive target of 515, was bowled out for 234. Their captain, Najmul Hossain Shanto, was the only player to put up a fight, scoring 82 runs. With this win, India leads the two-match series 1-0.

Ravichandran Ashwin, playing at his home ground in Chennai, not only scored 113 runs in India’s first innings but also took 10 wickets across both of Bangladesh’s innings, earning him the player of the match award.

Ravichandran Ashwin’s spin-bowling partner, Ravindra Jadeja, took three wickets on the final day after scoring 86 runs in a 99-run partnership with Ashwin in India’s first innings.

Bangladesh started day four at 158-4, with Shanto and Shakib Al Hasan holding off India for the first hour. However, Indian captain Rohit Sharma brought Ashwin into the attack, and he quickly broke the partnership in his first over. Ashwin got Shakib out for 25 with a smart ball that led to a catch by Yashasvi Jaiswal at short leg.

Jadeja then had Litton Das caught in the slip and later dismissed Shanto, who had been fighting hard for Bangladesh. After that, Bangladesh quickly collapsed, losing the match with five sessions left to play.

India had declared their second innings at 287-4 on day three, with centuries from Shubman Gill (119*) and Rishabh Pant (109), who was playing his first Test since a serious car accident in December 2022. The pair added 167 runs for the fourth wicket.

This Test was also Virat Kohli’s first since the birth of his second child, but he only managed to score 6 and 17 runs.

India’s bowlers, led by Jasprit Bumrah, had given them an early edge by bowling Bangladesh out for 149 in their first innings. India is looking to keep their lead at the top of the World Test Championship standings in this new season, which includes 10 matches.

Bangladesh came into this game after a historic series win in Pakistan, but they have never beaten India in Test matches. The two teams will now head to Kanpur for the second Test starting on Friday.

Virat Kohli made a big mistake with the DRS during Day 2 of the first Test against Bangladesh in Chennai on Friday. Kohli was batting well, having scored 17 runs from 36 balls with two boundaries. But then, a ball from Mehidy Hasan Miraz hit his front pad. The umpire gave him out, but Kohli wasn’t sure and had a quick chat with Shubman Gill. After talking, he chose not to review the decision and walked off, disappointing the fans.

Later, replays showed that Kohli had actually edged the ball, and if he had reviewed, the decision would have been overturned.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma was clearly upset that Virat Kohli didn’t use the DRS, and his reaction quickly went viral on social media.

India ended the day at 81 for three in their second innings, increasing their overall lead to 308 runs. Shubman Gill (33) and Rishabh Pant (12) were at the crease when play ended for the day.

India had started the day on 339/6 but quickly lost their remaining four wickets, adding just 37 more runs. Ravichandran Ashwin’s brilliant innings ended at 113, while Ravindra Jadeja was dismissed for 86.

Shakib Al Hasan Creates History, Becomes First-Ever Player In T20 World Cup To… https://totalcric.com/shakib-al-hasan-creates-history-becomes-first-ever/ Sat, 21 Sep 2024 06:11:54 +0000 https://totalcric.com/?p=6330 Bangladesh’s experienced cricketer, Shakib Al Hasan, is the first player to take 50 wickets in the T20 World Cup.

Bangladesh’s star player, Shakib Al Hasan, made history by becoming the first cricketer to take 50 wickets in the T20 World Cup. This happened during a tough match against India, where Bangladesh struggled in all areas of the game.

Shakib wasn’t at his best, giving away 37 runs in his three overs with an economy rate of 12.30. However, he did manage to take the important wicket of Indian captain Rohit Sharma. Rohit tried to hit a big shot but edged the ball, which was caught by Jaker Ali, making Rohit Shakib’s 50th wicket in the tournament. Shakib achieved this in his 42nd World Cup match.

The next closest player to Shakib Al Hasan’s record is former Pakistan player Shahid Afridi, who took 39 wickets in the T20 World Cup.

In third place is Sri Lanka’s fast bowler Lasith Malinga with 38 wickets. Sri Lankan captain Wanindu Hasaranga is also close to Malinga’s record but couldn’t pass it as his team was eliminated early in this edition of the tournament.

Pakistan’s spinner Saeed Ajmal holds the fifth spot with 36 wickets in 23 matches.

Despite Shakib’s achievement, Bangladesh lost to India. After winning the toss, Bangladesh chose to bowl first. India scored 196/5 thanks to a strong innings by Hardik Pandya (50* off 27 balls), along with contributions from Virat Kohli (37), Shivam Dube (34), and Rishabh Pant (36).

In response, only Bangladesh’s captain, Najmul Hossain Shanto put up a fight with 40 runs, but the rest of the team couldn’t perform well. Indian bowlers Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, and Kuldeep Yadav played key roles in India’s comfortable 50-run victory.

KL Rahul reveals why Virat Kohli didn’t take singles towards the end of the run chase against Bangladesh https://totalcric.com/kl-rahul-reveals-why-virat-kohli-didnt-take-singles/ Fri, 20 Oct 2023 05:22:30 +0000 https://totalcric.com/?p=4060
  • Virat Kohli scored a brilliant century for India in their fourth ODI World Cup 2023 clash against Bangladesh.
  • KL Rahul opened up about why Kohli didn’t take singles towards the end of the game while inching closer to three figures.
  • In the thrilling encounter at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, the 17th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 featured India facing off against Bangladesh. While the Men in Blue emerged victorious against Bangladesh in the contest by a decent margin, it was Virat Kohli’s brilliant century that took centre stage. However, Kohli’s century received mixed reactions, with some calling it a selfish act as the batter didn’t take singles towards the end of the game to reach his milestone.

Virat Kohli denies singles to complete his hundred

It is worth mentioning that there was a moment in the game when Virat required 15 runs to reach his century, while India also needed 15 runs to secure the win. At this point, Kohli decided to go for the century and finish the game himself, opting not to take singles with KL Rahul at the non-striker’s end. Instead, he took singles only when he deemed it necessary, waiting until the last ball of the overs if he failed to hit a boundary.

KL Rahul reveals what transpired Virat not to take singles

In a candid conversation with Star Sports’ presenters and commentators, Rahul has now provided insight into what caused Kohli to deny singles towards the end of the match. He admitted that it was he who asked the batter to go for the three figures, revealing Kohli didn’t feel right and resisted.

“I denied a single to Virat Kohli; he said it would be bad if you won’t take singles, people will think I’m playing for a personal milestone. But I said we are comfortably winning, you complete your century,” Rahul explained.

India’s reply was marked by a dominant display with the bat. The standout player in this performance was none other than Virat, who played a sensational knock of 103 runs from 97 balls, which included six fours and four sixes. Shubman Gill contributed valuable 53 runs to the run chase as well, as India comfortably achieved the target and clinched a convincing seven-wicket victory.

Ind vs Ban World Cup 2023 Highlights: Powered by a Virat Kohli ton, India registered a fourth win in a row at the 2023 ODI World Cup as they beat Bangladesh by seven wickets in Pune on Thursday. Chasing 257, the men in blue got off to a quickfire start, thanks to fifties from Shubman Gill and captain Rohit Sharma, who remains India’s top scorer at the tournament thus far.

Indian bowlers restricted Bangladesh to 256/8 in their fourth game of the 2023 ODI World Cup in Pune. It had been an inning after getting a good start from Tanzid and Litton kept losing its way. While it looked like they would get to 300 with ease in the first phase of the game the Indian spinners had their say in the middle overs.

Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat first. Skipper Shakib misses out due to an injury for the visitors and Shanto will lead the side. India will be looking to keep their unbeaten streak intact as they face Bangladesh.

Virat Kohli: Sorry for stealing it (PoTM award) from Jaddu, I wanted to make a big contribution. I have had a few fifties in World Cups, haven’t really converted them. I just wanted to finish the game off this time around and hang on till the end which is what I have done over the years for the team. I was telling Shubman, even if you dream about a situation like that, you’ll just go back to sleep, you won’t think it’s real. It was a dream start for me, first four balls, two free-hits, a six and a four. Just calms you down gets you into the innings. The pitch was pretty good and it allowed me to play my game – just time the ball, hit the gaps, run hard and get the boundaries whenever needed. There’s a great atmosphere in the change room, we are loving each others’ company, the spirit is there for everyone to see on the field. That’s why it’s translating like that on the field. We understand it’s a long tournament, you need to create some momentum in the change room for the guys to come out and play like this. It’s a special feeling playing at home, playing in front of all these people, we just want to make the most of it.

Get latest updates and full scorecard from IND vs BAN WC match in Pune.

India vs Bangladesh Live Score, Cricket World Cup 2023: India continue to chip away with wickets to bring Bangladesh down to their last four wickets for just over 200 runs. Their last-recognised pairing of Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur Rahim was ended by a special piece of fielding by Ravindra Jadeja, whose outrageous catch at point gave Jasprit Bumrah his first wicket. This meant that all Indian bowlers – barring Hardik Pandya and Virat Kohli who combined to bowl just 6 balls – have now picked wickets.

Earlier, Tanzid Hasan and Litton Das scored a brilliant half-century to give him team a spanking start, but Kuldeep Yadav ended the opener’s innings shortly after to give India a much-needed breakthrough. The Indian team wasted no time capitalizing on this success, securing more quick wickets. Ravindra Jadeja dismissed Najmul Hossain Shanto, while Mohammed Siraj sent Mehidy Hasan packing. Things went from bad to worse for Bangladesh as Jadeja’s second saw India getting rid of the well-set Das. This flurry of action unravelled after Bangladesh stand-in captain Shanto won the toss and opted to bat in their World Cup match at Pune. Initially, the Bangladesh openers faced a challenging start as Siraj and Bumrah found their line and length straightaway, but Tanzid and Litton Das eventually found their rhythm. India faced a setback when Hardik Pandya sustained an ankle injury and had to leave the field but thankfully for them, wickets in the middle overs meant that the Men in Blue were back in the game

With Afghanistan and the Netherlands doing the unthinkable, two major upsets have already rocked this World Cup, and if there is one more team well-suited to pull off another unexpected result, it’s Bangladesh against India today at the MCA Stadium in Pune. Bangladesh have defeated India a few times – not much – but enough for it not to be called an upset anymore. In fact, Bangladesh have beaten India three times in the last four ODIs played between the two sides, and yet, every time it happens, it’s an outcome no one sees coming.

India’s rivalry with Bangladesh may not be as big as the one they share against Pakistan, but it has its own charm. Even after years of battling each other for certain close results, the gulf between India and Bangladesh has only widened. The rivalry which began on a lukewarm note in 2000 when ‘big brothers’ India handed Bangladesh their Test debut, things took an unprecedented turn in 2007, when Tamim Iqbal, Mashrafe Mortaza and Mushfiqur Rahim stunned the Men in Blue at the World Cup in the West Indies. India got their revenge four years later but every time there is a World Cup match between the two, sparks fly.

India have been unstoppable thus far in the 2023 World Cup – they have looked more dominant with every passing game – a far cry from how Bangladesh have fared. Already grappling with the blow-up featuring Tamim Iqbal and captain Shakib-Al-Hasan, Bangladesh won against Afghanistan but were slapped with defeats against powerhouses England and New Zealand. To add to their woes, Shakib, who missed the New Zealand contest with a left quad injury, remains in doubt. The Bangladesh captain is showing improvement but a final call will be taken after monitoring his progress during Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s practice sessions.

Here are some key pointers surrounding the India vs Bangladesh World Cup 2023 match:

    – Bangladesh won the toss and chose to bat first

    – Tanzid Hasan and Litton Das were off to a slow start but then picked it up to the point that they broke the record for highest opening stand for Bangladesh in World Cups

    – Tanzid scored a half century and fell to Kuldeep on 51 off 43 in the 15th over, with the stand thus ending on 93

    – India then fought back with three relatively quick wickets while Litton Das moved past 50

    – Mushfiqur Rahim anchored the lower middle order before he fell to Bumrah thanks to a screamer of a catch from Jadeja

    – India have a 3-1 record against Bangladesh in World Cups.

    – In the last four ODIs played between the two teams, Bangladesh have beaten India thrice.
