The ball was so powerful that it broke Head’s bat into pieces, sending it flying out of his hands.

During a Major League Cricket match between the Los Angeles Knight Riders and Washington Freedom at Church Street Park in Morrisville on Sunday, Andre Russell bowled a powerful delivery that broke Travis Head’s bat in two. Despite this, Head continued to shine, scoring 54 runs off 32 balls with 2 fours and 6 sixes.

The Los Angeles Knight Riders, who batted first after Washington Freedom’s captain Steve Smith chose to field, managed to score only 129 runs in 18.4 overs. This was thanks to excellent bowling from Saurabh Netravalkar, who took 4 wickets for 35 runs, and Glenn Maxwell, who took 3 wickets for 15 runs.

Chasing a target of 130 runs, the Washington Freedom’s openers, Head and Smith, gave a strong start with a 79-run partnership, making the chase easy. In the second over, Russell’s fast, short-pitched delivery broke Head’s bat when he tried a pull shot, leaving him holding just the handle while the rest of the bat flew towards mid-wicket.

Travis Head’s surprised reaction went viral on social media, but he continued his innings and scored 54 runs off 32 balls, leading Washington Freedom to a convincing eight-wicket win.

After the match, Head said, “The pitch was slower and spun more than in previous games. It was great to hit a few good shots and secure a win. The crowd’s energy was amazing, and it really boosted our performance when Smithy and I were batting. I’m looking forward to the rest of the tournament.”
