Smriti Mandhana’s century was the highlight of the Indian innings, as they posted a formidable 342/7. Sri Lanka, chasing 343, fell short, managing just 245 runs in reply.

Key Highlights:

  • India 342/7 (Mandhana 116, Deol 47, Rodrigues 44, Rana 4-38, Amanjot 3-54)
  • Sri Lanka 245 (Athapaththu 51, Nilakshika 48)

India’s total was the highest ever women’s ODI score in Sri Lanka and their fourth-highest overall. The strong partnership between Mandhana and Harleen Deol (120 runs for the second wicket) laid the foundation for a commanding score. Mandhana’s 116 runs came off 92 balls and included some stunning sweeps and drives.

Sri Lanka’s chase:

Sri Lanka needed to complete the highest successful chase in women’s ODI history, but despite three half-century partnerships and a battling 51 from Chamari Athapaththu, they couldn’t keep up with the required run rate of nearly seven per over. Amanjot Kaur and Sneh Rana led India’s bowling charge, taking 3 and 4 wickets respectively. Rana’s 4/38 made her the series’ leading wicket-taker.

India’s bowlers put the game beyond Sri Lanka’s reach as they dismissed the Lankans for 245. The crucial breakthroughs came from Amanjot and Rana, who took control of the game with tight spells. Sri Lanka’s late resistance, led by Samarawickrama and Nilakshika, was not enough to halt India’s dominance.

This victory sends a clear message ahead of the Women’s World Cup later this year, with India emerging as one of the favorites for the tournament.
