Former Australian Test captain Tim Paine has been appointed head coach of the Australia A team for their upcoming home series against Sri Lanka A, scheduled to take place in Darwin from July 4.
Paine, who has steadily built his coaching credentials over the past two years, has worked in support roles with both the Australian women’s team and the Australia A men’s program. Most notably, he coached the Prime Minister’s XI during their clash against India last December.
As head coach, Paine will lead a multi-format series alongside an experienced support staff that includes:
- Adam Griffith – National pace bowling coach
- Scott Prestwidge – Assistant coach of the Australian women’s team
- Trent Keep – Pathway and Development Coach at Northern Territory Cricket
Continued Involvement with National Programs
Paine is expected to remain involved with the Australian women’s team at selected times throughout the upcoming season, while also balancing duties with Australia A and Adelaide Strikers in the BBL.
Ben Oliver, Executive General Manager of National Teams at Cricket Australia (CA), expressed confidence in Paine’s appointment.

“We’re looking forward to Tim stepping into the Australia A head coach role this season,” said Oliver. “He’s passionate about supporting the next tier of future Australian players and brings a wealth of contemporary playing and coaching experience to the role.”
