In a rain-affected, drama-filled encounter, Gujarat Titans (GT) pulled off a thrilling three-wicket win over Mumbai Indians (MI), ending their six-match winning streak at Wankhede Stadium. The match, full of twists and turns, saw Gujarat’s nerve hold steady in the face of heavy rain interruptions and a dramatic final over.

The game began with Gujarat opting to field after winning the toss, and early breakthroughs by Mohammed Siraj and Arshad Khan put Mumbai on the back foot. However, Will Jacks (53) and Suryakumar Yadav (35) steadied the ship with crucial partnerships, despite being dropped on multiple occasions. Mumbai was positioned well at 97 for 2 in the 10th over, thanks to solid middle-order contributions.

Despite that, the Gujarat bowlers fought back strongly. R Sai Kishore and Rashid Khan were key to restricting Mumbai’s progress, with Kishore removing both Suryakumar and Hardik Pandya. Prasidh Krishna continued to shine, taking important wickets while strengthening his hold on the Purple Cap. MI’s innings ended at 155/8, with Corbin Bosch striking two sixes in the final over before taking a blow to the head that would later impact the match.

Chasing 156, GT’s openers struggled against the sharp seam movement from MI’s bowlers, Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah, leaving them at a lowly 21 for 1 in five overs. However, Shubman Gill (43) and Jos Buttler (30) fought back, and a chaotic over from Hardik Pandya, which included two no-balls and three wides, helped GT find their rhythm. The rain then set in, causing another interruption, but GT continued to push ahead with a pivotal performance from Sherfane Rutherford, who hit a quick 28.

When play resumed, Mumbai’s bowlers struggled, with Bumrah and Boult being used up by the time the rain stopped. Despite their best efforts, GT was now ahead by eight runs on the DLS par score, and the final act of chaos unfolded. Deepak Chahar, tasked with bowling the final over, was hit for a four and a six off the first three balls. He then bowled a no-ball, making it easier for GT. With one run needed off the last ball, MI had a chance to tie the game but failed to collect a throw from mid-off, allowing Hardik Pandya to miss a crucial run-out attempt. GT celebrated their hard-earned win, edging past MI by the narrowest of margins.

This win takes Gujarat to the top of the IPL 2025 points table, adding to their growing momentum. Meanwhile, Mumbai’s hopes were dashed in a game that will be remembered for its intense moments and unpredictable twists.
