“Don’t Get Fooled…”: Umpire Gives Sensational ‘Smart’ Verdict On Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma

Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma is known for being calm and easygoing, and there are even funny stories about him being forgetful. But Indian umpire Anil Chaudhary has a different view.

In a YouTube podcast called “Unplugged,” Chaudhary, who has officiated over 50 international matches, said that people misunderstand Rohit. He believes Rohit is actually very smart and has a great sense of the game. Chaudhary said that fans and experts shouldn’t be fooled by Rohit’s relaxed style, as he’s a sharp cricketer.

“Rohit Sharma might seem laid-back, but he’s really smart. Don’t get tricked by his calm attitude—his cricket IQ is excellent,” Chaudhary said.

“When Rohit bats, it looks like the ball is coming at 120 km/h, but when others bat, it feels like 160 km/h. He gets involved in a lot of appeals and then casually says, ‘Let it go.’ He might seem casual, but he’s not like that at all.”

Chaudhary also mentioned that umpiring when Rohit is batting is quite easy because he plays straightforward cricket. He said Rohit’s dismissals are clear-cut—either he’s out or not out—without much confusion.

“Umpiring for someone like Rohit is simple. He’s either clearly out or clearly not out. There’s no tricky stuff with him, and that makes it easy for umpires,” Chaudhary added.
