UP Warriorz (UPW) have brought in Australian batter Georgia Voll as a replacement for Chamari Athapaththu, who is leaving the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 to join Sri Lanka’s national team for their New Zealand tour.
As per earlier reports, Athapaththu was only available for UPW until February 26, featuring in their match against Mumbai Indians, which UPW lost. With Sri Lanka’s tour of New Zealand starting on March 4, she will not participate in the remainder of WPL 2025.
Georgia Voll: A Rising Star
At just 21 years old, Voll is an emerging talent in Australian cricket. She made her T20I debut against England earlier year and was a key player in the WBBL 2024-25 season for Sydney Thunder, finishing as the team’s second-highest run-scorer with 330 runs at a strike rate of 144. She helped Thunder reach the WBBL Challenger before they were eliminated by Brisbane Heat.
Voll also impressed in ODIs, smashing a century in just her second match against India in December 2024. She ended that series as the highest run-scorer, amassing 173 runs at an average of 86.50.
UPW’s Current Standing
Voll joins UP Warriorz for INR 30 lakh (approx. $34,350) as they look to strengthen their squad for the remainder of the tournament. Currently, UPW sits at fourth place on the WPL points table, having secured two wins in five matches. Their next game is scheduled for March 3 in Lucknow.
With Voll’s arrival, UPW hopes to bolster their batting lineup and push for a strong finish in the WPL 2025 season.
