Vaibhav Suryavanshi, at just 14 years old, has made history by becoming the youngest centurion in men’s T20 cricket. The teenager smashed a rapid 35-ball ton for Rajasthan Royals (RR) against Gujarat Titans (GT) in Jaipur, setting the second-fastest IPL century, behind Chris Gayle’s 30-ball record.

Chris Gayle’s IPL records stood as the benchmark until Suryavanshi’s remarkable knock. His innings included 11 sixes, equaling the most by an Indian in an IPL innings, and 94 of his 101 runs came through boundaries. He reached his century by launching a six over midwicket off Rashid Khan. His performance was pivotal as RR successfully chased 210, wrapping up the game with eight wickets and 25 balls to spare.

Impactful Partnership with Jaiswal

Suryavanshi’s blistering knock came alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal, who made a steady 70 off 40 balls. The two young openers showcased great chemistry, with Jaiswal offering advice that boosted Suryavanshi’s confidence. Yashasvi Jaiswal’s growth also highlighted RR’s strong future.

Quick Rise

Suryavanshi’s quick rise is even more remarkable as he slotted in after regular captain Sanju Samson’s injury. In his first three IPL innings, he scored 34, 16, and 101 runs, with his rapid ton leaving a strong impression. His remarkable performances extended to youth cricket as well, including a 58-ball hundred against Australia U-19. Vaibhav Suryavanshi stats now stand among the best in his age group.

Powerful Technique

Suryavanshi’s ability to hit powerfully against world-class bowlers has caught the attention of Rajasthan Royals’ staff. “He’s a special, special talent,” said RR batting coach Vikram Rathour, praising Suryavanshi’s downswing technique, which allows him to generate such explosive power. Rathour also shared how the young talent takes on tough bowlers like Jofra Archer in the nets. Jofra Archer’s bowling stats reflect the challenge Suryavanshi faces regularly, but his fearless approach in practice makes him stand out.

RR’s Investment

Rajasthan Royals signed Suryavanshi for INR 1.10 crore (approximately USD 0.13 million) in the mega auction, recognizing his immense potential. After his record-breaking performance, RR captain Riyan Parag spoke about the hard work they had seen in the nets. “What we’ve seen in training was on full display tonight,” Parag remarked.
