Vettori Stands by SRH’s Aggressive Batting Despite Four Straight Losses

Sunrisers Hyderabad head coach Daniel Vettori is staying calm amid the storm. After SRH’s fourth consecutive defeat in IPL 2025, Vettori acknowledged the pressure but continues to back his top-order’s fearless approach—urging only better assessment of match conditions moving forward.

SRH were once again let down by their batters, managing just 152 for 8 on a challenging Hyderabad pitch. Gujarat Titans chased down the target in just 16.4 overs, exposing the lack of both application and execution from SRH’s much-talked-about batting line-up.

“We know the style is going to work,” Vettori said. “But we have to respect conditions and assess them better. Opposition bowlers are planning heavily for our top three, and we haven’t been able to counter that.”

Pitch and Planning

Vettori pointed out that Sunday’s pitch wasn’t the typical Hyderabad batting surface. It played slow, and SRH had aimed for a par score of 160-170. However, they fell short by about 20 runs, and the dew under lights made defending even harder.

“We needed 20 more runs to create pressure,” he said. “GT read the pitch better and executed their plans brilliantly.”

SRH had started their season with a record-breaking 286 against Rajasthan Royals, but that explosive start has been followed by a steep decline. Vettori, however, isn’t ready to hit the panic button just yet.

Composure Amid Chaos

“I don’t think Pat [Cummins] has ever panicked in his life, and I think I’m pretty similar,” Vettori said with a smile. “But we understand the ramifications of losing four in a row. It makes the season more challenging, especially when we came in as last year’s runners-up and had a strong start.”

The coach emphasized that it’s not just the batters, but all departments—including fielding—that need improvement.

Hope Ahead

Looking ahead to their next match against Punjab Kings on April 12, Vettori is hopeful that SRH can get back on track.

“The great thing about the IPL is that there’s always another game around the corner. If we click as a unit, we’re still a dangerous side. Right now, we’re just not performing the way we should.”
