Edward vii

King Edward VII was in charge of the United Kingdom and some other places from 1901 to 1910, and this period got its name from him.

He was born on November 9, 1841. Even though he wasn’t king until he was 60, he had the longest wait of any heir to the British throne. But before he became king, people weren’t sure if he’d be good at it or how long he’d live.

Edward’s mom took care of him a lot when he was young, and he didn’t get into politics much. He liked parties, gambling, hunting, and other fun stuff. People didn’t have high hopes for him being a great king because he was overweight and had mistresses.

Surprisingly, Edward did better as king than expected. People called him “The Peacemaker” because he kept things calm. He was also the first British king who followed the rules more than his own wishes. People liked him for being respectful and smart.

But even before he became king and got chubby, Edward played cricket. He played two games in 1866, but he didn’t do so well. One game, his team won easily. In the other, he only scored a few runs before getting out. Still, knowing he played cricket might make some people like him more.
