Jon Lewis has officially stepped down as England Women’s head coach following the team’s underwhelming performances, including a 16-0 Ashes whitewash in Australia and a group-stage exit at the T20 World Cup. The ECB announced his departure as part of an ongoing review of England’s performance.

Reflecting on his tenure, Lewis expressed his pride in the progress made, particularly in developing young players and achieving an 83% win rate in 2024. However, he acknowledged the challenges and stated that he wouldn’t be able to see the project through to its intended goal.

ECB Managing Director Clare Connor thanked Lewis for his contributions, highlighting England’s thrilling 2023 Ashes series and their eight consecutive ODI series wins under his leadership. While the recent failures have raised concerns, she reaffirmed the team’s potential and the need for strong leadership ahead of two upcoming World Cups.

Charlotte Edwards, who recently led Mumbai Indians to their second WPL title, is emerging as a strong candidate to succeed Lewis. The ECB is expected to announce the next head coach soon, with a packed international schedule ahead.
