New Zealand pacer Matt Henry has been officially ruled out of the last two T20Is against Pakistan as he continues his injury rehabilitation. Henry was initially named in the squad despite suffering a shoulder injury and an ongoing left-knee issue, but New Zealand Cricket (NZC) confirmed on Saturday that he will not take part in the remaining matches.

According to ESPNcricinfo, Zakary Foulkes, who was originally selected for the first three matches, has been retained for the final two games as Henry’s replacement.

Kyle Jamieson Also Dropped

In another squad change, Kyle Jamieson—who was Player of the Match in the first T20I for his 3 for 8 but proved expensive in the third game (0 for 54)—has been left out for the remaining matches. Will O’Rourke, who was initially named only for the first three games, has been retained in the squad in Jamieson’s place, as reported by BBC Sport.

Henry’s Injury & Squad Depth

Henry sustained his shoulder injury while fielding in the Champions Trophy semi-final against South Africa, forcing him to miss the final against India. He has also been managing a persistent left-knee issue.

New Zealand’s fast-bowling options remain strong, with Jacob Duffy leading the wicket charts (7 wickets in 3 matches). James Neesham and Ben Sears have also played two games each, while Ish Sodhi and captain Michael Bracewell have featured in all matches so far.

Remaining Matches & Series Outlook

New Zealand currently leads the five-match series 2-1, with the fourth T20I set for Sunday (March 23) in Mount Maunganui and the final game on Wednesday (March 26) in Wellington. The Cricketer notes that New Zealand will look to secure the series despite missing key pacers.

Updated New Zealand Squad for Last Two T20Is

  • Michael Bracewell (capt), Finn Allen, Mitchell Hay (wk), Tim Robinson, Tim Seifert (wk), Mark Chapman, Zakary Foulkes, Daryl Mitchell, James Neesham, Jacob Duffy, Will O’Rourke, Ben Sears, Ish Sodhi

As reported by Wisden, the squad adjustments highlight New Zealand’s depth in pace bowling, as they aim to seal the series against Pakistan.
