Former England cricketer Andrew Flintoff opened up about the severe car accident he experienced while filming BBC’s Top Gear in 2022.

The crash left him with serious facial injuries that needed surgery. After the accident, BBC stopped filming the show, and Flintoff received £9 million in compensation.

In a series called Freddie Flintoff’s Field of Dreams on Tour, Flintoff shared his struggles following the accident. He revealed that he’s been dealing with anxiety, nightmares, and flashbacks and finds it hard to ask for help.

“I honestly shouldn’t be alive after what happened,” Andrew Flintoff said. “I don’t want pity, but I’ve been finding it really tough. I’m struggling, and I need help, but asking for it is hard for me. I need to stop crying every two minutes.”

Despite the challenges, Flintoff is trying to focus on the positives, seeing this as a second chance. He said he’s inspired by the kids he meets, many of whom have faced their own hardships.

Flintoff returned to cricket earlier this year as part of England’s coaching staff during the Test tour of India. He admitted that his anxiety made it difficult to even consider going on the tour. Now, he’s working as a full-time coach with Northern Superchargers in The Hundred.
