Devdutt Padikkal’s debut heroics: A sleepless night turns into a dream come true in Dharamsala

After his first day on the field, Devdutt Padikkal remembered the night before his Test debut and said he had a hard time sleeping because he was so nervous about the match. Padikkal showed off his skills in his debut game against England at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala. He confidently scored a half-century, helping India take a lead of over 200 runs on the second day of the fifth Test match. People watching were impressed by Padikkal’s excellent shots, especially his drives.

During his time at bat, Padikkal hit 10 fours and a six in 103 balls. But he couldn’t turn his good start into a score of 100 or more and was out by a special delivery from Shoaib Bashir.

Devdutt Padikkal was chosen for India’s team for the last two Tests when KL Rahul got injured. He had to wait for his chance and sat on the bench in Ranchi until he finally got to play in Dharamsala.

After the second day of play, Devdutt Padikkal remembered the night before his Test debut and said he had trouble sleeping because he was so nervous about the match.

“No matter when you find out, you’re always going to feel nervous. I got a message the night before saying I might be playing. I was nervous, and it was hard to sleep, but it’s also something you enjoy. These are the days you live for,” Padikkal told reporters after the match.

Padikkal and Sarfaraz Khan put together an important partnership of 97 runs for the fourth wicket after Rohit and Shubman Gill, who had each scored over 100 runs, got out quickly.

Devdutt Padikkal said he enjoyed batting with Sarfaraz and called him a great guy to have around.

“It’s always fun to bat with Sarfaraz Khan. He’s a great guy to have around. We weren’t talking much about the game, just some light chat to make each other comfortable on the field. When it’s just the two of you against eleven opponents, it’s important to support each other and enjoy batting together,” said Padikkal.
