IPL 2022: No Strong Or Weak Team In T20 Cricket, Believes Delhi Capitals Assistant Coach Ajit Agarkar

IPL 2022: Former India pacer and Delhi Capitals assistant coach Ajit Agarkar feels that there is no clear favourite in the T20 format and more so in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as anyone can be a winner.

Former India pacer and Delhi Capitals assistant coach Ajit Agarkar feels that there is no clear favourite in the T20 format and more so in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as anyone can be a winner. Putting forward Rajasthan Royals’ maiden triumph in the inaugural edition of the IPL as a case study Agarkar commented on the glorious uncertainties of cricket.

“In T20 cricket there is no strong or weak team, I wish it were true and you could pick one or two teams but that’s not the case. We have enough of evidence throughout the editions of IPL that no team is easier to beat,” Agarkar said during the IPL gameplan show on Star Sports.

“If you see Rajasthan Royals in the first edition of IPL, everyone was having a laugh at the team they picked in the auction, but they went on to win the trophy,” he added.

On February 23, IPL franchise Delhi Capitals announced the appointment of Ajit Agarkar as the team’s new assistant coach.

Agarkar joined the Delhi Capitals coaching staff of Ricky Ponting (Head Coach), Pravin Amre (Assistant Coach) and James Hopes (Bowling Coach).

The 44-year-old, with 288 ODI and 58 Test wickets to his name, has represented Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Daredevils in the IPL.

Team India’s non-Test players recently attended a fitness camp at the National Cricket Academy and the results of the tests are coming out in public now. Hardik Pandya has passed the test with flying colours and is set to make his captaincy debut in IPL 2022. He will be leading Gujarat Titans.

But there’s a player who failed to achieve the desired fitness mark. As per PTI, young batsman Prithvi Shaw has failed the yo-yo test. In fact, he scored less than 15 in the test. A player has to touch the 16.5 mark in order to pass the test.

The report adds that his fitness is one of the reasons why he isn’t considered for selection in the senior team. Shaw last played for Team India on the Sri Lanka tour. Shikhar Dhawan led a new-look squad on the tour. Shaw did travel to South Africa with India A team but wasn’t included in the national team.

“If Prithvi is not being repeatedly considered, then perhaps his fitness standards aren’t up to the mark, as in what is expected of a Team India player,” a source told PTI.

Shaw’s fitness result will not have an impact on his participation in IPL and he is allowed to take part in the T20 league. Shaw looks all but set to kick off the proceedings with David Warner, who will be available for selection after a few matches.

“These are just fitness updates. Obviously, it doesn’t stop Prithvi from playing for Delhi Capitals in IPL. It’s just a fitness parameter and not the be all and end all,” a source told PTI.

Shaw was retained by Delhi Capitals before the IPL 2022 mega auction and has the team management’s backing. He will now stay in DC’s camp for nearly two months and will likely work on his fitness to force his way back in the national team for the home series against South Africa.
