Kohli’s Masterclass Guides India to Champions Trophy Final

Virat Kohli once again proved his mettle in high-pressure chases, leading India to the final of the ICC Champions Trophy with a composed 84 off 98 balls against Australia in Dubai. His innings helped India successfully chase down a target of 265 on a tricky pitch, securing a spot in the final.

“This game is all about pressure, especially in big matches like semifinals and finals. If you go deep into the innings with wickets in hand, the opposition tends to falter, making the chase easier,” Kohli said after winning the Player-of-the-Match award. “It’s crucial to control your impulses and focus on the game situation.”

Walking in at 30 for 1 in the fifth over, Kohli stitched crucial partnerships: 91 runs with Shreyas Iyer, 44 with Axar Patel, and 47 with KL Rahul. His approach was built on patience and strike rotation, with 56 of his 84 runs coming in singles. His knock included only five boundaries and no sixes, showing his adaptability to the conditions.

“The pitch dictated my approach. Like against Pakistan earlier in the tournament, I focused on strike rotation and partnerships rather than boundary hitting. The key was understanding the conditions and playing accordingly,” Kohli explained.

His only aggressive attempt came in the 43rd over when he tried to clear long-on off Adam Zampa was caught. Despite that, he had already put India in a commanding position, allowing KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya to complete the chase.

“My timing and composure at the crease were intact. I was happy working the singles and building partnerships. When you take pride in hitting gaps and rotating the strike, you know you’re playing good cricket,” Kohli added.

India now awaits the winner of the New Zealand vs. South Africa semifinal, set to take place in Lahore. The final is scheduled for Sunday in Dubai, where Kohli and Team India will aim for another ICC title.
