PAKISTAN vs AUSTRALIA, 2nd Test, Live Updates: Usman Khawaja and David Warner have given Australia a bright start against Pakistan in the second Test at the National Stadium in Karachi. Earlier, Australia won the toss and elected to bat first. After the first Test ended in a dead-rubber, both teams will look to register a win ahead of the final Test in Lahore. Imam-ul-Haq was the star of the show with the bat as the Pakistan opener scored a century each in both the innings. Azhar Ali also scored a mammoth knock of 175 in the first innings while Abdullah Shafique scored his maiden Test ton in the second innings. It was a difficult outing for the bowlers, except Nauman Ali, who took six wickets in Australia’s first innings. Australia skipper Pat Cummins confirmed on the eve of the second Test that Queensland spinner Mitchell Swepson will make his Test debut in Karachi. He will replace Josh Hazlewood in the playing XI.

Squads:

Pakistan: Abdullah Shafique, Imam-ul-Haq, Azhar Ali, Babar Azam(c), Mohammad Rizwan(w), Iftikhar Ahmed, Fawad Alam, Nauman Ali, Sajid Khan, Naseem Shah, Shaheen Afridi, Mohammad Wasim Jr, Shan Masood, Saud Shakeel, Haris Rauf, Zahid Mahmood

Australia: David Warner, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Steven Smith, Travis Head, Cameron Green, Alex Carey(w), Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins(c), Nathan Lyon, Mitchell Swepson, Mitchell Marsh, Josh Hazlewood, Marcus Harris, Mark Steketee, Ashton Agar, Scott Boland, Josh Inglis

The first Test of the three-match series between Australia and Pakistan resulted in a draw. The pitch had no help for the bowlers. The curators faced a lot of criticism for making a dead pitch. Australian bowlers could only manage to pick four wickets in the entire Test match. Pakistan batted first in that game and managed to score 476 runs at the end of the first innings.

Imam Ul Haq and Azhar Ali led the way with the bat. Imam Ul Haq eased his way to a brilliant knock of 157 runs in 358 balls, while Azhar Ali managed to score 185 runs in 361 balls. As for the Australian bowling attack, Lyon, Cummins, and Labuschagne picked one wicket each. Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Cameron Green couldn’t pick a single wicket in the match. Given that the pitch in Karachi is likely to help spinners, Mitchell Swepson should make his Test debut.

Australia, though, batted brilliantly in the second innings. All four top-order batsmen made valuable contributions with the bat. Khawaja fell just 3 runs short of a hundred, while Marnus Lubuschagne fell 10 runs short of a hundred.

David Warner also made a valuable contribution of 68 runs in 114 balls, while Steven Smith also scored 78 runs in 196 balls. All four are, once again, likely to make the top four ahead of the second Test.

As for Pakistan, you don’t expect any changes in the top five either. Faheem Ashraf, though, has cleared the rapid antigen test and is likely to make his comeback into the Test side. Also, Hasan Ali and Haris Rauf have recovered and will be in contention for the second Test.
