Delhi Capitals had a difficult time in their match against KKR. Even though Rishabh Pant scored a half-century, Sehwag wasn’t pleased with the performance.
Delhi Capitals had a tough time in their match on Wednesday, marking their third loss in the 2024 Indian Premier League. The team led by Rishabh Pant faced a huge challenge as Kolkata Knight Riders piled up a massive 272/7 – the second-highest score in the league’s history. Delhi Capitals then struggled in their chase, getting all out for 166 runs. Despite a collapse in the top order, Rishabh Pant (55) and Tristan Stubbs (53) put up a fight, bringing the team to a decent score.
However, Virender Sehwag, the former India and Capitals opener, wasn’t pleased with Pant’s dismissal while trying to hit boundaries aggressively to chase the daunting target. Sehwag believed Pant should’ve stayed at the crease and turned his half-century into a bigger score.
Pant returned to cricket after more than a year following a severe car accident in December 2022. He scored his second consecutive half-century in the match against KKR in Visakhapatnam.
“His batting was good, and he’s back in form, scoring at a great strike rate. But today, it was clear from the very first over that they weren’t going to win. This was the time for some batting practice. Instead of going to the net later, he could’ve faced 20 extra deliveries here. Then he could’ve probably skipped practice altogether and returned straight for the next match,” Sehwag said about Pant’s batting.
Rishabh Pant scored his first fifty upon his return to cricketing action last week when the Delhi Capitals defeated Ruturaj Gaikwad’s Chennai Super Kings by 20 runs. With one win in four matches, DC currently stands in ninth position in the table.

In their upcoming match, the Capitals will face Mumbai Indians, who are going through a tough time. Mumbai Indians, led by their new captain Hardik Pandya, haven’t won any of their first three matches. Moreover, during their recent home match against Rajasthan Royals, the team’s fans appeared to be unhappy with Pandya’s captaincy, as they booed him.
