Usman Khan surpasses Babar Azam to top the elite PSL list

In a cricket match between Multan Sultans and Islamabad United on Sunday, March 10, Usman Khan, a batter for Multan Sultans, made a remarkable achievement. He scored 100 runs off just 50 balls, setting a new record in the PSL. His century came at a strikingly fast pace, with a strike rate of 200. This helped the Sultans reach a total score of 228/4 in Rawalpindi on Sunday.

Although Islamabad United managed to chase down the score in 20 overs and win the match by three wickets, Usman’s performance was a highlight. He hit 15 fours and three sixes during his innings. This was Usman’s second century in the ongoing PSL season, following his unbeaten 106 against Karachi Kings the previous Sunday. Notably, he also holds the record for the fastest century in the league, scoring a hundred in just 36 balls against Quetta Gladiators in PSL 8.

In Islamabad’s chase, Colin Munro played a crucial role with a quick 84 runs off 40 balls. Skipper Shadab Khan contributed 54 runs off 31 balls, while Haider Ali, Faheem Ashraf, and Imad Wasim also made valuable contributions with 19, 23, and 30 runs respectively. The lower-order players’ quick runs were vital in Islamabad’s successful chase. With just 7 runs needed from 2 balls, Imad remained composed and guided his team to victory, securing a spot in the playoffs for Islamabad United.

In the game, Islamabad United won the toss and chose to bowl first. However, this decision proved costly as Multan Sultan’s batsmen got off to strong starts, with contributions from Yasir Khan, Mohammad Rizwan, Johnson Charles, and Chris Jordan.

Despite posting the highest total of the season, Multan Sultan’s bowling was unable to contain Islamabad United’s batsmen, except for David Willey.

With this win, Islamabad United secured 12 points, joining Multan Sultans and Peshawar Zalmi in the playoffs. The race for the fourth spot is now between Karachi Kings and Quetta Gladiators, while Lahore Qalandars are out of contention after their recent loss to Karachi.

“Speaking about the match, Islamabad skipper Shadab Khan praised his team’s performance and expressed confidence in their abilities. He also joked about backing struggling players like Colin Munro.

Imad Wasim, who played a crucial role in finishing the game for Islamabad United, credited the team’s belief and partnerships for their success. He also highlighted the importance of performing well in crucial moments.”
