Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) spinner Varun Chakravarthy has been fined 25% of his match fees and handed one demerit point for violating the IPL code of conduct during the match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on May 7, 2025, at Eden Gardens.
The incident falls under Article 2.5 of the IPL’s code of conduct, which pertains to any language, action, or gesture directed towards a dismissed batter that could provoke an aggressive reaction. Following his dismissal of Dewald Brevis, Chakravarthy gave the young batter a send-off, gesturing for him to leave the field.

The fine and demerit point come after a strong performance by Chakravarthy, who took 2 wickets for 18 runs in his 4 overs. Despite his efforts, KKR failed to defend their target of 179, with CSK clinching victory. KKR now sit in sixth place on the points table with 11 points from 12 matches, and their playoff hopes remain on a knife-edge. They will play their final two league matches away from home, against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on May 10 and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on May 17.
