  • West Indies defeated Australia by eight runs in second Test of the two-match series at the Gabba.
  • Caribbean skipper Kraigg Brathwaite slammed former Australia cricketer Rodney Hogg after the win.

In a historic turn of events, West Indies secured a remarkable eight-wicket victory over Australia in the second Test of their two-match series at the iconic Gabba. The standout performance came from Shamar Joseph, who exhibited exceptional skills with the ball, becoming the driving force behind the Caribbean triumph.

However, the post-match narrative took an unexpected turn as the Caribbean skipper, Kraigg Brathwaite, vehemently criticized former Australian cricketer Rodney Hogg for his unethical comments on the West Indies cricket team. The skipper’s bold condemnation reflected the team’s resilience and unity in the face of adversity, emphasizing that success on the field is not just about skill but also about mutual respect and sportsmanship.

Brathwaite expressed immense pride in his team’s performance, revealing that they drew inspiration from critical comments, particularly those from Hogg, who labelled them ‘pathetic and hopeless.’ The juggernaut asserted that they aimed to prove they were far from being described as such and humorously questioned if his muscles are now ‘big enough’ for the veteran.

“I’m extremely proud. I must say we had two words that inspired us in this Test match. Mr. Rodney Hogg said that we were ‘pathetic and hopeless’. That was our inspiration. We wanted to show the world we’re not pathetic. And I must ask him (flexing his biceps), are these muscles big enough for him?” Brathwaite said while speaking in during the post-match presentation.

Brathwaite further expressed immense pride in his team’s performance and highlighted the contributions of players like Kavem HodgeKirk McKenzie and Kevin Sinclair. Despite acknowledging the need to improve in terms of batting and emphasizing the importance of learning from the win, he commended the efforts of the players who stepped up.

“I am very proud of the guys for coming in and stepping in. Kavem Hodge, Kirk McKenzie, Kevin Sinclair and all have stepped in. We didn’t get enough runs with the bat as a team; we need to improve there. We need to learn from this win,” the 31-year-old added.
