Wiaan Mulder has etched his name into South African cricket history with a record-breaking innings in the second Test against Zimbabwe.

The stand-in captain produced a monumental knock, scoring an unbeaten 367 runs off just 334 deliveries—the highest individual Test score ever by a South African player. His innings now ranks as the fifth-highest in men’s Test cricket history.

Mulder’s marathon effort featured a staggering 49 fours and 4 sixes, propelling South Africa to a commanding first-innings total and putting them firmly in control of the match.

Coming in at number three after South Africa lost two early wickets, Mulder displayed remarkable composure and power. Alongside David Bedingham, he steered the Proteas from a shaky start to a towering total.

His innings was also historic in another way: Mulder became the first player ever to score a triple century on his Test captaincy debut. Remarkably, it was the second-fastest triple hundred in the history of the format, reached in just 297 balls—second only to Virender Sehwag’s 278-ball triple century against South Africa in 2008.

This latest milestone comes just weeks after South Africa lifted the World Test Championship trophy at Lord’s, capping a memorable period for the team.

Earlier, the Proteas had taken a 1–0 lead in the series with a dominant 328-run victory in the first Test in Bulawayo. Mulder’s record-breaking performance has now set the stage for what looks set to be another emphatic win.

With this innings, Wiaan Mulder has firmly secured his place among cricket’s modern greats and given South African fans a moment to cherish for years to come.
